Character of the water

Långtjärnen lies in the cold north — a northern humic brown tarn. The water is crystal-clear and the fish skittish in the sharp light.

The surroundings

The lake lies half-remote, a fair way from the nearest road, tucked into woodland.

Shallow throughout (max 4 m), with reeds and vegetation over large areas — water that warms fast in spring.

Fishing Långtjärnen

perch, pike and trout sit at the top of the food chain in Långtjärnen, carried by roach. The brown, humic water keeps visibility short — the fishing is more about vibration than sight.

Whoever fishes Långtjärnen regularly builds something of their own: a log of what took, where and when. That's how the water gives up its patterns — cast by cast, never all at once.

General rules of thumb for this kind of water

  • Clear water makes fish light-shy — dawn, dusk and night are usually best.
  • Nutrient-rich lakes hold plenty of baitfish but often murky water.
