Character of the water

Lomtjärnen lies in central Sweden — a humic brown tarn. The water is crystal-clear and the fish skittish in the sharp light.

The surroundings

The lake lies remote, ringed by forest and bog far from any road. Few find their way here — the water is untouched and the stock undisturbed.

Shallow throughout (max 4 m), with reeds and vegetation over large areas — water that warms fast in spring.

Permits & rules

Fishing permit required — Lomtjärnen FVOF. Day permit ~60 kr · annual permit ~300 kr.

• Zander: minimum size 45 cm · protected during the spawn (Apr–May).
• Trout & Arctic char: protected during the autumn spawn · catch-and-release on certain stretches.
• Handheld tackle only. Respect the protected zones at the inlets and outlets.

Fishing Lomtjärnen

Lomtjärnen holds 8 species, with perch, zander and grayling at the top of the chain and roach, regnbåge and whitefish schooling beneath them. The modest depth keeps most of the fishing within reach of the bank.

Whoever fishes Lomtjärnen regularly builds something of their own: a log of what took, where and when. That's how the water gives up its patterns — cast by cast, never all at once.

• Clear water makes fish light-shy — dawn, dusk and night are usually best.
