Character of the water

Stortjärnen lies in the cold north — a northern humic brown tarn. The tea-stained, humic water hides the bottom within an arm's length.

The lake lies half-remote, a fair way from the nearest road, tucked into woodland.

Shallow throughout (max 2 m), with reeds and vegetation over large areas — water that warms fast in spring.

Fishing permit required — Stortjärnen FVOF. Day permit ~160 kr · annual permit ~800 kr.

• Trout & Arctic char: protected during the autumn spawn · catch-and-release on certain stretches.
• Handheld tackle only. Respect the protected zones at the inlets and outlets.

Fishing Stortjärnen

The species list of Stortjärnen runs to 5. The predators — grayling, burbot and trout — hunt where the baitfish gather, and on a water this size you soon learn where it holds its fish.
