Character of the water

Utby Lång lies in the south — a southern acidified forest lake. Acidification has thinned life down to the hardiest few.

The surroundings

The lake lies half-remote, a fair way from the nearest road, tucked into woodland.

Moderately deep (7 m) — shallow bays, the odd reef and a deeper channel through the middle.

Fishing permit required — Utby Lång FVOF. Day permit ~100 kr · annual permit ~500 kr.

  • Pike: keep at most one over 75 cm per day.

Fishing Utby Lång

perch and pike sit at the top of the food chain in Utby Lång, carried by roach, sarv and sutare. The nutrient-rich water means plenty of baitfish — and predators that grow fat on them.

The fishing here follows the water's own rhythm: dawn and dusk have their windows, fronts close and open them, and the season moves the fish. No two sessions at Utby Lång are alike.

General rules of thumb for this kind of water

  • Acidified water yields few, hardy species.
  • Nutrient-rich lakes hold plenty of baitfish but often murky water.
